  My kindergarten students understand very well the need for including everyone in the neighborhood. They want everyone to have a turn. They want everyone to have food and peace and a quiet, safe place to sleep.

  I grew up with Mister Rogers. He did more than teach children about the world, he taught his television neighbors how to be good people. Even as an adult, I still sing "What Do You Do With the Mad That You Feel?" to myself, or in my head, sometimes when I'm having trouble bringing myself to do something that I don't want to do, or when I have very strong feelings and I'm trying to maintain my composure. I have to go get a blood draw today and I have a major phobia of needles. I'm sure I'm going to be singing it in my head then. I can stop when I want to, stop when I wish, stop stop stop anytime. And what a good feeling it is to feel like this, and know that the feeling is really mine. Know that there's something, deep inside, that helps us become what we can. For a girl can be someday a woman, and a boy, can be someday, a man.
