  My son is 23 and he is still leaving with me. In Africa we have generations leaving together this is the west problem and it does not relate to all cultures.

  I have one 26 year old we talk every day and one 17 year old and we are also close hopefully it stays that way. My goal was to break the cycle so far I did.

  Sorry to hear that's your situation. It's sad, but that's not the case for everyone. I'm married, and my family and I have moved back in with my dad. We live with him, bring him on our annual family holiday, and take him away with us on weekends too. I'm actually the least educated person in my family. The most educated family member is the one we see the least, but we regularly spend time with everyone else. Family life is complicated, and every family is different. Maintaining relationships takes effort from both sides.

  Nah, I know many 30 year olds still with their parent/parents. Makes more sense in this economy.

  Dream on, dude! They’ll be living with you until they’re 40. And I’m talking about the kids who have advanced college degrees, not the ones who dropped out of high school.

  The days are long, the years are short. I was sad when my daughter left home to go to Uni, but as a parent, I felt proud I gave her enough for her to feel confident to leave. I never wanted a Velcro kid. I wanted her to be independent, happy and pursue her own life whilst making her own mistakes along the way and learning about who she is, not what she thought I wanted her to be. She, like us all, gets one life. Who wants their kids home till they are middle aged? That’s not healthy. For some, I understand the necessity, they want to save or can’t afford to leave, but there has to be a balance in that scenario. Raising kids is hard, I did it alone so it was even harder. On top of that, I had long term health issues, which added another layer. Maybe that changed my perspective to not wanting her to be ‘stuck’ with me, I don’t think it did, I would have her home in heartbeat, but who would benefit from that? Certainly not her. She’s not my carer. She has her own life, career and partner and I never want that to change for her so long as that makes her happy. I think we have a great relationship. We talk almost every day. For me, I did the best I could and I’m happy she’s grown up to add value to this world and I couldn’t be prouder ❤

  In our culture and religion, at least one child (men) stays at home to take care of their parents.

  Lots of kids spend a lot more time than that with their parents especially in these days where they can’t afford their own home. All depends on your situation and how fun you are for them to spend time with
