  You can find a tutorial for anything online, BUT you have to know how to use tools, and that mostly comes from experience. I’m very fortunate to have had family that taught me

  That’s how I got my first job as a welder. Took the class in school, got certified and went straight to Alaska working on the pipeline. Brutal conditions but bought my first house three yrs later. I was 21.

  I always helped my grandfather change the oil in all the vehicles in the neighborhood and even helped change tires up until he passed away back in 2013. My uncle has taken up being the family mechanic and I occasionally get his help modifying or helping fix my vehicles from time to time.

  I had to learn about 90% of stuff on my own: cars, house, people. Being able to fix the majority of things in a house has made me a ton of money on the side, since no one seems to know anything now. It's a great time to make that money 💰!

  As a teacher my favorite class I've ever taught was practical math. It was teaching kids in high school how to balance their Bank accounts, What annual percentage rates are, credit cards, percent offs for sales et cetera et cetera et cetera. Several times I actually had parents comment that this was the most valuable class I've seen their kid take

  I took automotive, ffa, welding, and wood shop in high school. It was a fun time.

  Treat life like you lost both parents and you have to learn everything yourself , otherwise no one will guide you through it

  I learned about how to work on cars from my neighbor Mr Kelly. He was in his 90s and would flip and sell cars and trucks. He was a B-17 ball turret gunner in ww2. Such a kind human that guy.

  I took every shop class that existed in school. We had plastics shop, metal shop, electric shop, wood shop, auto shop, home economics, and a host of other ones. Every one of those things were valuable skills.

  This is why I like home schooling. I know a family that do it and all their children know practical skills in life. Cooking, sowing, mechanical stuff and carpentry.

  My school had a program called Boces for 11th and 12th grade. It was optional but to be honest I wish it was mandatory. I learned more in the 2 years I was in Boces then I ever did in school. I learned what credit is, how to buy a house, a car, budget, how to do an oil change, drain transmission fluid, do brakes, build a small engine, take apart a lawnmower and put it back together. How to solder, weld, crimp wires, how to keep you lawn nice, how to fix a motorcycle, a diesel engine, and more. If I could go back and do another 2 years, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

  Learning how credit works should be a curriculum in high school. Yet the system doesnt want that.

  Best thing I did in school was taking the rotation class for Welding, Auto Body, Auto Tech, and Carpentry.
