  People hate when you say this but there is a big portion of people that go to College not because they wanna get a degree or to study academically but to live the "adult life". They get out of HS and have all this freedom for the first time in there life, they can have random hook ups, stay at parties until 5am and studying and pursuing there degree is on the burner. This is actually a big problem in competitive degrees like Computer Science and 3D modeling, freshmen get caught up in the "adult life" and you really cant afford to do that in competitive degrees like Computer Science and 3D modeling so they end up switching majors or dropping out

  My nephew went to a 12 month trade school, people said he was making a mistake because he is very intelligent. After working in industrial construction for around eight years, he is now over multiple job sites making over 250k. He still only has a certificate... no degree.

  Those tech execs didn't dropout because they didn't need college, they got in, got the *networking* they needed, and got out.

  They should make two years of community college a required step after highschool before university. Convincing a 17 year old to take out a huge loan for four years is nuts.

  Just as a heads-up for those unaware, if you’re from a low-income family (100k or less) and get accepted to Harvard, they’ll cover all expenses, tuition, room, board, food.

  Fully agree with this. “I’m so educated, I’m so smart, I have a degree in bullcrap studies but make $30k a year” hate those people.

  My husband is a journeyman plumber with a union. After he got out of 5 yrs($60,000) trade school he made $35/hr now hes a journeyman with pension maing $87k a year.

  Trade School is where most of my friends went to after high school. I went to a Community College for Nursing. I am a Nurse Practitioner now.

  I went to a vocational school my last two years of high school for diesel mechanics and up until 2024 I was making almost thirty dollars an hour working on semis before I lost my job to my disability.

  I’m a plumber and have been for 10 years. I’m 31 years old, have never been in any debt. I have made six figures the past 5 to 6 years. I’m on the very brink of opening up my own plumbing business and I guarantee I will easily make 500k or more my first year in business. 95% of people don’t know how to do basic repairs or how to use tools.

  Coming from a rich family and dropping out of Harvard to run your already existing company is very different from dropping out of a random state school to be a twitch streamer, just keep that in mind people

  What they’re glossing over that prestigious colleges are almost entirely free unless your family makes 75-150k+ as a household income, and even still you don’t pay full price unless your family is making 300k+ a year, and even still there are probably a few solely merit based grants you can apply for. In addition degrees are literally required for some fields, no research institution is going to allow you to go into research without one, no company or government is going to allow a person without credentials to get a nuclear engineering job, you physically cannot become a doctor without college, etc. Although I agree choosing questionable majors is bad, college is not inherently this grand evil it’s gonna ruin your whole life if you go type thing.

  YouTube offers so much if you know where to look. Over the years I've spent time learning more about Tech/ IT/ PC building and we live in a day where experience speaks louder than paper credentials.

  Im going back to school bc this world changes too much. But... tuition where i am is like, maybe $12k a year for actual deep extensive degrees, like proper engineering, applied physics, chemistry, trades, etc. The lesser degrees are like 4-5k a years. Im going into mechatronics, and electrical engineering. We'll always need someone that can design, build, fix, and maintain a circuit or even full robotic body maintenance. I hate AI, so Im going to go into the field that dictates their bodies. So if need be, i can shut them off in an emergency.

  Purdue has $10,000 per year tuition for Indiana residents. It's like $25,000 or more for non-residents. I was born and raised a Hoosier so I count if I moved back and changed my address.

  A lot of those college dropouts who went on to become CEOs were going to ivy league schools though. The vast majority of CEOs still have college degrees.
